May in retrospect

Writing is something I genuinely enjoy. Not as much as photography or editing, but I like the creative challenge. I thought it would not be too difficult to commit myself to writing at least one blog post every month. But than I found myself at the start of a new month and I still had not written anything, or chosen what to write about (which can be even more difficult). So, what happened in May?

The month started with a refreshing one-week vacation with my family: camping in beautiful Dutch nature. It was a time for reading ('Dracul' by Dacre Stoker & J.D. Barker), reconnecting with my loved ones, and my photography passion. While recollecting the trip to Skye, I planned some early morning photo outings to capture the serene beauty of Dutch dawn. It was not quite as spectacular as Scotland, but it was relaxing and peaceful, and I spotted some roe deer, hares and birds of prey (too far away for pictures though).

Back home, I dedicated significant time to finalise Cranium magazine’s issue 41-1, and I embarked on a quest to secure a part-time or freelance job. From updating my resume (thus redesigning the thing) to writing motivation letters, it was a time-intensive endeavour, but a necessary and fun one. And then there were concerts to attend and photograph, family and friends to visit, and my weekly chores and errands.

Reflecting on the month, it’s clear that while I didn’t get around to writing a blog post, I was far from idle. Each experience, whether personal or professional, added layers to my journey. This lapse has been a gentle reminder of the importance of balance and the inevitability of occasional slip-ups. I’m back with renewed determination, ready to share more stories and insights in the coming months.
